To the testing procedure

PM testing procedure

Quality testing to the PM test standard

Not every criterion carries the same weight. The PM testing procedure distributes 300 points across ten test parameters in three evaluation areas. The weighting reflects how strongly a feature determines a product’s fitness for use.

  • Product-specific properties 100 of 300 points Quality & workmanship · Design · Size & weight 0%
  • Use and safety 120 of 300 points Functionality · Handling & suitability · Safety 0%
  • Opinion and service 80 of 300 points Advertising claims · Consumer opinion · Packaging & labelling · Value for money 0%

Why we test

We build bridges between consumers and sellers

On marketplaces, presentation often decides, not quality. A product test against fixed criteria creates common ground.

Advertising claims are hard to verify

Before buying

For consumers

The grade comes at the end, not the beginning. Every test report shows which criteria were tested and how they were factored into the result.

  • All test reports freely accessible
  • Every test parameter shown individually
  • Results can be looked up by licence number

After the test

For manufacturers & sellers

A product test delivers what product descriptions cannot: an independent, reliable basis for decisions built on firmly defined test criteria. The result is published and can be looked up by licence number.

  • Independent product test with ten test parameters
  • Test seal and evaluation report with their own licence number
  • A test result for reliable buying decisions

Frequently asked questions

Good to know

Answers on the testing procedure, product selection and the test seal.

01 How does testing at Prüfmagazin work?

Our tests follow a structured process based on the criteria of the PM testing procedure. The test parameters are set in advance and recorded systematically. Testing is carried out by independent product testers, and every step is documented.

02 How are products selected for testing?

Manufacturers and sellers can submit their products for testing. We also monitor the market to identify relevant products. User feedback is factored into the selection as well.

03 Are the test results free to access?

Yes. All test results are available online free of charge and can be looked up by licence number.

04 What does the Prüfmagazin seal stand for?

The seal stands for product quality that has been tested and transparently documented against the criteria of the PM standard. For consumers it is a point of orientation, for manufacturers confirmation that defined quality requirements are met.

05 Which product categories are tested?

Electronics & tech, home & household, DIY & hardware, garden, sport & leisure, health & personal care, family & children, pets, office supplies, fashion and more.
